Panic Attacks, Stress, and Anxiety

Over-breathing which occurs during stress (hyperventilation) and anxiety can put an individual into a vicious cycle of further stress. When we over-breathe, we cause a reduction in our arterial carbon dioxide. This causes an increase in the stress hormones in the body, putting the individual into a state of flight/fight. When in a state of anxiety our breathing is affected, and we tend to over-breathe, and the cycle goes on.

Breathing training can help resolve breathing dysfunctions associated with anxiety and panic attacks by breaking this vicious cycle. By normalising the breathing pattern through exercises the individual is able to reduce the stress hormones in the body, settling the state of stress and panic.

  • Panic Attacks: Using Buteyko based breathing methods Christina works to resolve breathing dysfunction through specific exercises tailored for each individual.
  • Reduces Physical Tension: Osteopathy can help in releasing tension and stiffness in the body.
  • Improves Breathing Patterns: Through manual therapy and breathing exercises, osteopathy can aid in improving breathing patterns, which is crucial for those experiencing panic attacks.
  • Enhances Circulation: By improving blood flow, osteopathy can help in reducing the physical symptoms of anxiety such as numbness or tingling sensations.
  • Promotes Relaxation: Techniques used in osteopathy can trigger the body’s relaxation response, reducing overall stress and anxiety.
  • Improves Sleep Quality: By easing physical discomfort and promoting relaxation, osteopathy can contribute to better sleep quality, which is often disrupted by stress and panic attacks.
  • Boosts Body Awareness: Osteopathy can help individuals become more aware of their body’s responses to stress, aiding in early recognition of anxiety symptoms and better management of panic attacks.
  • Facilitates Emotional Release: The hands-on approach can also provide a therapeutic effect, offering an emotional release and contributing to a sense of well-being.
  • Encourages Holistic Health: By addressing the physical aspects associated with panic attacks, stress, and anxiety, osteopathy supports overall health and encourages a more holistic approach to managing these conditions.
